JAPAN'S OF WORLD EMPIRE: THE TANAKA MEMORIAL

Here is a segment of Japan's Mein Kampf, their blueprint for conquest, promulgated in by Tanaka, as the basis for a positive program in Manchuria. In the course of its many pages, the old theme song of Hideyoshi, who laid down the ideal of world conquest, is again given voice. Step by step, the developments outlined (and justified by cleverly specious argument) by Tanaka for his emperor have been followed, differing only in order and speed. And exactly to the date, ten years from the time the Memorial was accepted, the attack on China was made. In the course of the test he says ""For the sake of self preservation and of giving warning to China and the rest of the world, we must light America sometime."" And again, ""We shall have to go to war with Soviet Russia."" Time will tell. Carl Crow, in bringing this document to public attention, has preferred it with a brief outline of Japan's shifting policy, expansion, closed door, open door, and various alliances, for what they are worth. And he inter comments and parallels at intervals through the text of the Memorial . One could wish he had done more, though comment might seem superfluous today.
