This is excellent and should prove an extremely useful reference book, for it includes much that other dictionaries of quotations have omitted. The index system is simple and easy to use. The arrangement of material falls into a few main classifications, -- authors in alphabetical arrangement; the Book of Common Prayer; the Bible; anonymous extracts from English literature; quotations from Latin, Greek and foreign tongues, with translation. The quotations included are those that have proved their right to belong here, but one regrets the exclusion of many of the moderns. The balance sometimes seems askew, -- ten pages approximately for Milton, one stanza for Edna St. Vincent Millay. Compiled by a group of experts.
