A spooky, but warm verse story about a little girl who fears there are tigers in the collar. Reassured during the day by her mother's attitude and her own investigation (as an invisible secret agent), the little girl is allowed one night of peace. But the next night, imagination scores a victory -- or is it reality? There They Were! Stealthily creeping up the stairs! But how different they seemed. These were sad tigers who needed comforting and love. An exciting ride in the night air to the tune of a rollicking song lifts the spirits and though mother is unconvinced next day, the little girl lives on with her special secret. A story for children young and naive enough to accept the absence of a sharp line separating the real from the unreal. The author never lets on. This aura of mystery deepened by softly colored, sensitive illustrations make for an enchanting story.
