Epic is a hearty word for this minor cookbook-memoir, memoir-cookbook, which laces recipes with anecdotes about a portly Victorian father whose true weight was never determined (the scale didn't go above 250). Anyway he was ""a judge of good wine... good food... and the New York Supreme Court"" in that order, and you will meet him at home, in his club, traveling in Europe or Japan, with chefs, butlers, hoteliers and someliers indulging his hedonism. You will be able to reproduce some of his likings, codfish cheeks, cassoulet, pecan pie, etc. but the Judge carries more embonpoint than the book.
