MY LATE WIVES

Excellent variation on the mass murderer theme (Crippen, Landrue, etc.) with Sir Henry Merrivale stage managing the apprehension of one Roger Bewlay, many times wife killer, still at large. With a play about Bewlay about to go into production, the actor to play his part, tries the role in real life, letting hints about his assumed past color his stay in what might be Bewlay's district. When he is left with a dead woman on his hands, when local opinion is all against him, it is up to H. M. to produce one of his better solutions in high pressuring the killer and locating all the bodies. Top notch intellectual cat-and-mousing, manipulation of large deceits and misdirections.
