Largely drawn from the material in her Sunday column in the N.Y. Times, this contributes reflection of much of the current thinking on the bringing up of children on the part of leading educators, psychiatrists, pediatricians, and is a general reflection of the findings in this field rather than original opinion. Concerned largely with behavior angles and approaches to them, the guidance is flexible, psychological -- at a popular level, reasonable. And the problems here may concern parent education or re-education; family living and relationships (the working mother, the housebound mother, the fatherless child, grandmothers, etc.); infancy and later years; school; health; discipline; delinquency; the gifted -- and the retarded -- child; and so on. Books such as this, compiled from newspaper articles, do not have quite the unity, or inclusiveness, of coverage that others in the field may have had. But there's plenty here for most parents.
