An enigmatic tale, this is drenched in the psycho-analytical release of the confessional for Edouard tells of Charles' life and death to Charles' twin brother who has come to Paris for just such an explanation. Living in a district in which he did not belong, Charles with his clever fancies and love of domination has made a close friend of the boy, Ton Ton and is embittered when Ton Ton introduces Pipa, a feline bit of femininity. To hurt Ton Ton, Charles makes a play for Pipa, Ton Ton retaliates by proving his manhood with another woman and Charles is made a laughing stock by Pipa. In desperation he commits suicide. The final viciousness is revealed as Pipa is shown living with Edouard. The accent on the corruption of a friendship has a certain foreboding quality as the narrator discloses the deceit and humiliation visited on a helpless character.
