Causley, a popular children's poet in England, here offers a collection of his nursery rhymes, full of rhythm and humor. Many have been set to music, with piano accompaniment and chords included. The rhymes sound a little like Dennis Lee's, but are somewhat more subdued, perhaps because they are for a younger audience. The layout of the pages, the rhythm and tone of the poems, and the choice of words, are all very British. Some readers may find this makes the book less accessible, but many librarians will find good material for their programs for younger children. Foreman has had fun doing a combination of full-color and black-and-white illustrations. His sprightly vignettes pick up the tone of the various verses and keep the book from appearing too heavy. Libraries that collect songs, poetry, or materials for younger children will find this useful.
