by Charles Dickens ‧ RELEASE DATE: May 15, 1934
The sensation of the Spring -- from the newspaper point of view -- this publication of the story of Jesus, as Dickens wrote it for his own children, during the early reign of Queen Victoria. Most of you have seen it in newspaper syndication during the past weeks. Dummies of the trade edition have been generously distributed. The public has been reading news items about it for weeks. And the result -- advance orders, both for the regular trade edition ($1.75) and for the limited ($10.00). If you have not seen the text -- nor a dummy -- don't expect anything controversial or sensational or particularly original. It is a version of the Gospel story, which conforms closely enough to that taught in Sunday Schools the country over, for it to be a sure item for the huge conservative market which seems always ready to absorb one more life of Christ. Its brevity and simplicity makes it admirable for children.
