ARENA

Jason Kirk, detoured from his marriage and his chosen profession- as a sports writer goes to Madrid to be offered the arena as an assignment, and the opportunity to escort the well born, well protected Stella De Solorzane, whose English educated father holds only a contempt for the national sport. Neither Jason, nor Stella's father, are aware of Stella's attraction to Rodrigo, the number one matador, until it is too late and Stella has eloped with him. Sent on to Mexico, again to cover the ring, Jason connects up with Stella and Rodrigo- Stella who is increasingly uneasy as a wife who may soon be a widow, Rodrigo who is more sullen and unpredictable. Stella, anxious that Rodrigo give up bullfighting, is with Jason when she first watches Rodrigo in the arena, where he is gored in the leg, and notwithstanding- sees him return to take on another bull impelled by an obligation, and dedication, which will always be stronger than his love for her.... Played up rather than down, a hotblooded romance is synchronized with the allure of a savage spectacle and tamed for popular entertainment.
