GREEN GROWS THE PRAIRIE

Arkansas in the 1890's backgrounds a story of the land and the people who decide to stay on it. Jim Luckett, who lives with his sister and brother-in-law, is tempted by his brother Reuben's wanderings in Alaska but, when they prove unsuccessful, Jim is almost relieved to be able to stay home even though the tough problem of making a living off the dry Arkansas land remains unmistakably ahead. How they work it out, with the help of a foresighted landsman whose experiments provide a successful and convincing crop of rice makes a sincere book.
