The log of a thirteen-year-old Phoenician tells a taut little story: he and his older brother, sons of an honest trading family orphaned, paupered, and put under the guardianship of a greedy uncle by an unfortunate battle, are sought out by Lotan, the prince of a distant, silver-producing island. Inspired by his promise of trade and enriched by his payment of an old debt, they repair the ship Wanderer, gather a crew of trusted men and set sail. Exotic trade and their, uncle's treachery follow swiftly. Told with much dialogue, little character development and no unessential description, this is traditional strange ports and pirates cargo.
