LEON AND ALBERTINE

A charming love story that makes gentle points about not losing one's true self in the pursuit of romance. When Leon, a pig, falls hopelessly in love with Albertine, a hen, all contentment vanishes. Instead of wallowing carefree in the mud, he devotes all his attention toward getting her to notice him. Davenier's large, loosely rendered line and watercolor illustrations are expressive and packed with action. They are often hilarious--children will certainly giggle over Leon's idea of a snappy wardrobe, and his attempt to impress Albertine with a spectacular dive. In this triumphant picture book, Leon is equally appealing whether he reflects utter dejection or joyous abandon.
