SADDLE YOUR DREAMS

When the author read Robert Louis Stevenson's Travels with a Donkey, she was inspired to pursue his path through the Cevennes region of France south of Lyons, and west of the Rhone. Her grandmotherly years (she was in her late sixties) did not deter her, and she gathered ready recruits in Ronnie, a young photographer, and Jean Pierre, a university student. She started out bravely on Bichette, a donkey, soon switched to Linotte, a white horse, and more often to a car. The small caravan proceeded with the helping hand of M. Chardon, hired for the purpose, and surprisingly enough, in each village the inhabitants remembered Mr. Stevenson. Unfortunately, Mrs. Sumner's journey does not on its own account arouse much interest.
