DANGEROUS ANGEL

Another CBK amalgam, this has for its historical basis the brief jewel fraud that caught the fancy, and the pocketbooks, of San Franciscans in the 1870's. Its heroine, Anneke Villard, from Kentucky, sets out to win a place in society and to build herself a handsome fortune -- both of which she accomplishes but not before juan Parnell's Spanish- Irish determination cracks her self-sufficiency. Using her wits to pick the brains of bankers and financiers, she sets up an alter-ego to carry out her real estate and investment plottings so that her youth and beauty are never questioned. She is alerted to the possibility of large scale hoax when a fellow Kentuckian seems too interested in her life, but it is only when the fraud is to be revealed does she trade her knowledge in return for further advancement of her own plans. A pastiche of San Francisco days and doings, with dollars, diamonds and silver more interesting than its people, this is non-taxing S.E.P. serial.
