Grant Kirby, United States Post Office Department Special Investigator is not very special as fictional investigators go. He's a Gay '90's Blade with a very dull edge. The colorful turn of the century New York setting comes up grey in this early murder-by-parcel-post. The second corpse is given away in the title and the first was a mayoral candidate. The book has all the ingredients -- a bird in a gilded cage, gangs and politics -- but the pot boiled over.
