In the effort to bring this down to reading level for third and fourth grade, wild and woolly adventure has been watered down for the innocent palate, unnecessarily. At least we think they can take the real western bad men, brawls, cattle thieves and good and bad Indians...However, the attractive format, good type, Grace Paull's lively black and white pictures, and the popular subject will find a place with that market calling for regional material on phases of western expansion. The story tells of the adventures of Dick Park, who came alone from New York to St. Joseph to join his father, only to find that his father was a pony express rider with no real home. But Dick goes to his station in the Nebraska prairies, and has an exciting time. A map- and some songs- add variety.
