VALENTINE FOXES

With a generously large picture-book format and a fairly lengthy text appropriate for newly independent readers, an affectionate look at the Fox family preparing for a favorite celebration. While Mama Fox struggles, with exemplary good humor, to cope with her ebullient family, Zandy, Pandy, and Poet make valentines and even bake an almost-perfect cake, sweetly allowing Little Dilly to ""help."" Wendy Watson neatly conveys the comic mayhem that ensues when homemade valentine litter is combined with the debris generated by the enthusiastic bakers; her rosy variations on apricot pay tribute to both the holiday and the characters, while making a pleasant alternative to the familiar pink and red. An unusual, delicious-sounding recipe for the cake is included. A fine addition to holiday collections.
