It's the last day of the year 2079 in Magellan, futuristic capitol of the hundred-square miles remaining from an atomic holocaust. On the stroke of midnight, the Universal Society is flung into Eternity, a hoped-for ""Liberation"" made possible by the omnipresent computer brain Chronophage which, as it turns out, has ambitions of its own. Euri is one of the few who views this imaginative freefall from time with pessimistic resistance and Paradise proves to be another NO Exit. Cynical asides make this crypt-ic city better than the average urban renewal of sci-fi philosophizing.
