by Cornelia Meigs ‧ RELEASE DATE: July 26, 1937
Excellent historical background story of the breaking through the wilderness to lay out the line for the Northern Pacific. From Minnesota woods to the Yellowstone, heroic engineers labored, to return to civilization and a nation in financial collapse, the scheme bankrupt. Against the background is told the love story of a young engineer and a girl. Historical aspects first rate -- plot rather thin, for the audience for which it is planned. A good marginal book for older boys and girls.
