Cautionary tales- for careless gardeners (and who isn't?) The ""plant doctor"" who has given us sound advice over the years on keeping our gardens healthy, here discusses some of the perils of Indiscriminate use of pesticides, of bringing into our gardens infested material, of careless pruning, of wrong planting, cultivating, watering, fertilizing. She provides important lists on such varied subjects as quarantine regulations (federal and state), on deficiency symptoms, on mulches (with her own likes and dislikes and why); she gives us pages and pages of charted information across the board (Host-Pest Damage- Control). And in the appendix, she lists garden plants with their optimum Pit range, and garden pesticides, in alphabetical order by common or trade names. And in between, there is a great deal of commonsense advice on plant material and its relation to garden health, on what to do and what not to do for a middle of the road procedure. And again and again- she warns of danger, urges reading labels, insists on safety rules, and suggests that we select species resistant to pests, that we consider the type of plant, the time of year, the weather conditions in relation to controls.
