This may be ""Roman For The Layman"", but it is far from ""Romans Made Easy"" and for this we can be eternally thankful. When the New Testament Professor of Bangor Theological Seminary set out to write this modest book about the Epistle to the Romans, he kept it simple, but he did not try to obviate, eliminate or denigrate the tremendous challenge that St. Paul had forever placed before all Christians when he wrote that famous letter. This is no verse by verse commentary, nor is it really a book about the Epistle. Rather, it takes the major ideas of the Epistle in chronological order. Dr. Throckmorton does not try to explain every word of every verse, but he does treat in sequence the major ideas that St. Paul presented and he does attempt to answer the question of why the answers were presented in the form in which St. Paul gave them. The result is a book which is aimed toward laymen in a very real sense, but yet is still a book that any serious scholar of the New Testament may read with pleasure and profit. Especially commendable is Dr. Throckmorton's treatment of Suffering.
