Another Scottish romance, more down than thistle, finds Kit Wentworth at 27, bringing up Gerald's son Simon and their twins alone. She has had no contact with his father, Sir Mortimer, an autocrat, ever since Gerald had quarreled with him and removed himself from the inheritance of a baronetcy and estate. Now, however, a command invitation takes them all to Limbourne where Kit finds the atmosphere suppressive as well as oppressive; she also does not like Sir Mortimer's offer to young Simon whom he taps as a future heir. Simon however is left to make his own decision, and at the end, for Kit, there will be a new life of her own, with Alec.... No better, no worse, and perhaps even no different than others in this pleasant, low pressure romantic continuity.
