by D. S. Savage ‧ RELEASE DATE: Feb. 28, 1979
Drawing inspiration from Corbett's (19th-century) Cottage Economy, this brisk, peppy guide covers most aspects of self-sufficient living, from basic amenities to more optional considerations--how to breed chickens, milk a goat, or hunt with a crossbow. Savage, who knows both England and the U.S., shows his expertise repeatedly, noting which invaders to outwit and which to destroy, mentioning why one method is preferred to another, and including recommended equipment and suppliers--from Sears Rotocrop Accelerator to an Aberdeen hand thresher. Purists may chafe at the sections on tobacco farming and home brewing, but he insists that if you must indulge, it's wiser to grow and process your own. A whole earth catalogue personalized for like-minded independents.
