by Damon -- Ed. Knight ‧ RELEASE DATE: June 23, 1967
These stories are on the whole fresh, smart additions to the genre. Kate Wilhelm's view of a future actress trapped by the ultimate in audience participation in Baby You Were Great is great while Gene Wolfe contributes a droll troll story in Trip Trap. Ted Thomas' tale of The Doctor caught in the stone age is convincing, touching portraiture while Kit Reed comes up with some macabre whimsy in The Food Farm which a reluctant dieter turns into the last word in mess halls. The longer pieces such as Richard McKenna's Fiddler's Green and Joanna Russ' double decker about an early Amazon can be skimmed, or better still, by-passed. But anticipate a lock-on audience for this Orbit.
