THE HAPPY BIRTHDAY EGG

David and his cat were roused by a strange face in the window, with funny fuzz, big eyes and a big nose. And he set out first in the middle of the night, and again in the very early morning, to find out what it was. He collected all his friends in the village, each had a different theory each came armed with a different implement- and together they found a huge egg. A dragon's egg, perhaps? It was tied with a red ribbon- and given to David's grandmother, who had arrived the night before her birthday. Easy reading action and humor which made The Happy Birthday Umbrella last year such a favorite. Harvey Weiss pictures are caricatures and amusing- but why make the color purple when the story calls for red? Children don't like such inconsistencies.
