Another of the series of ""Ethical and Religious Classics of East and West"". Here attention is called to the Orthodox Church of Georgia, a little known Christian people in the Caucasus between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. Their church traces its formulation to the time of Constantine the Great, and is thus one of the most ancient national churches in the world. It has a distinguished record of devotional and philosophical achievement, and of steastness in the face of persecution on the part of Iran, the Mongols, and Bolshevik Russ. Such a history has produced many saints whose stories have not before been translated into English. Here we have some of the most noteworthy made available, and from them wein a fuller knowledge of life in the Caucasus, in Byzantium and in Palestine. We new insight into the history and aspirations of this important branch of the Eastern Church--and the whole world of medieval Christendom. The student of Eastern religious history will find this small book indispensable.
