Their church traces its formulation to the time of Constantine the Great, and is thus one of the most ancient national churches in the world. It has a distinguished record of devotional and philosophical achievement, and of steastness in the face of persecution on the part of Iran, the Mongols, and Bolshevik Russ. Such a history has produced many saints whose stories have not before been translated into English.
