MOTORMAN

The only virtue of this absolutely atrocious book is its brevity. Moldenke (he's an ex-banana watcher, recipe-maker, and spy) searches for Doctor Burnheart and Eagleman, the maker of moons (don't ask why) in an incoherently conceived future (based neither on philosophical nor technological premises, however false) of fake planets, false dawns, and foreshortened months, where people eat crickets out of the air, volunteer for injuries in ""Mock Wars,"" and endlessly run around zapping ""jellyheads,"" presumably out of sheer boredom. The author mistakes movement for plot, incomprehensibility for mystery, and mystery for significance, and everybody is relieved when after awhile he realizes the pointlessness of his verbal gymnastics and simply stops.
