OLD ACQUAINTANCE

The old acquaintances are Charlie, a successful novelist with four wives and a succession of young men in his past, and Lotte, a Cerman singer and movie star, now American. Their acquaintanceship dates back thirty years to their youth in Berlin. They have encountered one another throughout the years, and now they meet at the top in Mondorf, where the film festival requires Charlie's attendance as a judge, Lotte's as a still lovely elder statesman. Charlie has Paul, Lotte, Unne and her particular entourage in tow, until Paul and Unne make off together, leaving their elders to their companionship and ultimately, their particular brands of loneliness. David Stacton has a spectacular, erudite way with the fun and games which may appeal to the worldly, as may the inevitable comparisons to celebrities on the scene.
