JERRY KRAMER'S FAREWELL TO FOOTBALL

Instant Replay (1968), still bestselling, scored instant points with Packer backers and everyone who wanted to know what it was like in the good years with the Yankees of the Gridiron. Farewell is an equally readable candid replay of a pro's life before and after. Jerry Kramer talks about his life from his hand-me-down beginnings to his fifty dollar shoes but mainly the focus is on the game--the '58 season, his first when they played mediocre ball for an undemanding coach. Then the coming of Lombardi and a tyrannical regime that would make them World Champions. Jerry Kramer would also suffer (gladly) breaks, tumors, retina damage and the unkindest cut of all...a colostomy. It's hardly all grabs and glory and in the section on the ignominious last season (1968) after Lombardi's retirement you can feel the blood and sweat turning into tears. Nonetheless the thrill is there and Jerry. Kramer is out for another conversion...It's good!
