A dare-devil aviator, barnstormer, stunt flier, in personal reminiscences, from his first acquaintance with planes, through combat in World War I, stunt flying in Hollywood's silent era. through combat and instruction in World War II. There's a breath-taking quality of slick journalese in the succession of smash-ups, adventures, etc. The section on stunt work in the pictures has interest beyond the audience for books on flying, but plenty of thrills and close adherence to a technical point of view will make this chiefly of appeal to the air-minded youngster, seeking a new angle on a favorite topic.
