A not too savoury slice of American history, this story of the Germans who lived at peace with the Mohawks in the valley of Schoharie, of the betrayal by the whites who crowded in upon them, of the coming of the war, the break-up of the community, the revenge of the Indians, and the price paid by the valley. A story of a section, with individuals emerging, but not dominating. A book for those who enjoyed Drums Along The Mohawk, though not so important a book.
