A lively dope sheet in book form of the do's and don'ts of horse racing written by the sports editor of the New York Mirror. There's plenty of good ""horse"" sense in his advice and instructions on how to tackle the betting problem; there's a brief history of horse racing in America; there are many useful hints about track etiquette and lingo. Informal style-good journalese -- punctuated with anecdotes and humorous incidents in the world of the Sport of Kings. Some of his tales would top a fisherman any day. There are some sober down to earth facts- rules, glossary of terms, listing of tracks. There's a good deal about specific famous horses, trainers, jockeys- but the highest tribute is paid to ""Big Red"". There's a chapter on harness racing. All in all- a book for the fans.
