DATE WITH DARKNESS

Sub-titled ""A Novel of Suspense"", this is a variation of the chase and provides a fair amount of synthetic stimulation in the story of Branch, young Navy officer on leave, and the girl, Jeanette, he picks up on a train, sleeps with, and gets involved with in a series of inexplicable incidents. Warned out of town by a private detective, held up for money by Jeanette, Branch leaves with her, and becomes the target of the anti-Vichy vigilantes who are pursuing her. He helps her against his better judgment in the rescue of her husband; he is twice the victim of her enemies; he saves her, but pulls out for once and all...Intricate intrigue, with some explicit amatory touches-- this is a very good time passer, with double in sale for the mystery market.
