A very gentle, not too consequential, family reconnaissance returns to a childhood spent on a lakefront in Minnesota, in the Streetcar House, which was put together from six cars- his father's particular project. From the first summer spent in the car he shared with his sister, waking up to the Carter's Little Liver Pills on the car-card rack overhead, to the next summers, when there were many improvements- from the removal of the running seats and handstraps to establishment as a permanent residence- this tells of the family life shared there:- fishing and hunting; the cow- Betsy; and mostly father- whose imprint is strongest here and a very pleasant impression it is that he leaves.... An innocent time, which retains much of this quality in its retelling here and also adds a definite nostalgia.
