Insurance claims adjuster, Jeff Di Marco, asks lots of questions to get the answer to the death- by drowning- of moneyed Mrs. Montague Shankle, who trips over a pan of paint. Two nieces and a nephew by marriage who no longer have anything to gain, a neighboring farmer who had quarreled with her over a boundary line, a young lawyer who had taken advantage of her, all do not seem to be strong suspects and it is the character of the dead woman which is consistent with the fate which overtakes her.... Ordinary people and commonplace circumstances do not add allure-just credibility.
