A Puerto Rican fantasy shifts to- and from- New York and recounts with a wistful air the adventures of Pepe Coquis, a small member of the tree frog family who live in the cane fields and sing their Green Song each evening to make sure all's right with the heavens. Once on the plane to see the world, Pepe meets a poet, and, once in the city, loses him to have a series of satirizing experiences that include getting mixed up with the police and ending up at the zoo, before he finds the poet and his island home. Pleasant reading, this shoots its gentle barbs at city life but should for its best be taken as good imagination.
