Diplomatic adventures in the postwar peace (?) world told with speed but considerably diminished suspense as all factors are known in the lonehand fight of Piers , Undersecretary of the Department, against certain German envoys, a British appeases, and Hunt's rival, Gorden, who values personal power over international interests. Piere, who had known of German attempts to create incidents, and therefore opposed the demilitarisation of Germany at the next conference of peace diplomats, also known of their murder of Anstruther, Secretary of Peace, and is thought to have Anstruther's papers which would convict them. A long game of tag, as Hunt is followed, grilled by all interested, which ends at the conference table as Piers exposes his enemies. Simplified yarning, which-for my money-missed fire.
