THE PROFESSOR AND I

Following her husband's autobiography, this informal recollection of the past few years lightly styles the author's deep appreciation of her family and the life they share together. Following no particular time sequence, Mrs. Van Doren gives the reader glimpses of her well known husband, her now equally famous, older son, Charles, the quiz show champion, and her younger son, John, a Professor at Brandeis University. Little acts of generosity, and larger ones- such as the entry into the family of two much appreciated daughters-in-law, thread this anatomy of American family life at its best, a life based on shared ideas and experiences.
