by Doug Allyn ‧ RELEASE DATE: April 9, 1996
Young ex-con Jimmy Calderon came from Savannah to Michigan's upper peninsula to confront his wealthy birth father, Owen McClain. But now the boy himself has gone missing, leaving behind only his rented car sunk in the Odawa River. Jimmy's brother Ray, following his trail, is sure the McClains did away with the kid, and he's almost persuaded restauranteur/diver Michelle ""Mitch"" Mitchell to take up his cause and maybe even to fall in love with him. But the McClains, still smarting from their missing patriarch's desertion from his Vietnam combat unit 30 years ago, are ruthless enemies, and what they can't buy or bully they're willing to destroy. Not a patch on Allyn's peerless short stories; though Mitch (Icewater Mansions, 1995) is an engaging series heroine, the solution to this case seems to come from deep left field.
