One can count on certain elements in the Lucia series -- and followers of the earlier books will be waiting for this. Quiet fun, amusing situations, inimitable characterizations, poison in honeyed words, the iron hand in the velvet glove -- all here -- and Lucia, approaching fifty, starting along the roadway of a Napoleon of finance, and sidetracked into the usual diversions of rivalling her friendly-enemy, Mrs. Mapp-Flint. It is not likely that these titles -- Queen Lucia, Miss Mapp, Lucia in London and Mapp and Lucia will ever be popular with the general reading public, but there is undoubtedly a small and faithful band of devotees, and the bookseller should be able to expand it, if there is any staff member who belongs to the cult!
