We are indebted to ""The Library of History and Doctrine"" for bringing us this fine work by the Professor of Theology at the University of Hull, England. Dr. Tinsley begins with the unique quality of Christian mysticism, -- it is controlled by a series of historical events which reveal the Way of the Lord. Imitation of God in the Old Testament, or Imitation of God in Christ in the New Testament both reveal the pattern of life which, when followed in loving obedience, draws the believer closer to God not merely in repetitive acts, but rather in the reproduction within the believer of the quality of nature of the Divine Life, so that he regains his pre-Fall stature as a Son of God. In the process the Imitator comes to understand the meaning of the Incarnation; why the ministry of Jesus took the form it did, and how the follower of Christ must imitate His methods, His love and His sacrifice. This is no easy book for laymen, but clergy, theologians, and students of religions will welcome it not only for its close-knit thought, but for the personal gain to their own spiritual pilgrimage.
