A rather limited thing, but nicely handled, and recalling Giono's work, particularly Harvest, in its poetic paganism, its touch of allegory, of symbolism. It is the story of an outlaw, condemned to isolation on a barren island, for stealing three sheep that he might marry the coquette he loves. He is followed by a servant girl, who knows herself unwanted and unloved, and together they make a livelihood and a home. In spite of the shadow of the girl he had loved. The scene is Scotland -- the time, undefined.
