ALL IN THE SAME BOAT

An American anthropologist and his wife have written an absorbing account of their four-year odyssey around the world in a yacht called the ""Phoenix"". Fulfilling a lifelong ambition, Dr. Earle Reynolds, accompanied by his wife Barbara, two of their children, and three additional crew members, set sail October, 1954, from Hiroshima, Japan, where Dr. Reynolds had been engaged in radiation research. Undertaken solely for the pleasure of sailing, the cruise leads to many romantic areas and ports of call -- Hawaii, the South Seas, Bali, the Cape of Good Hope, the West Indies, Galapagos, and back to Hiroshima. Navigating a small boat across the ocean calls for a maximum of ingenuity, and the ""Phoenix"" crew learns to man the craft expertly. Most of the four-year voyage is richly rewarding. The colorful places visited, the lasting friendships made, the would-be disasters averted, and the sheer delight of sailing are made vivid in this book. Readers who yearn ""to go down to the sea in ships"" will follow eagerly the course of the ""Phoenix"" as it girdles the globe.
