recursorily, cursorily, this gives a short account of Gene William Mauch's experience in baseball before he went to manage the Philadelphia Phils in 1960. For the most part this is a playback of the 1963 year by which time he had built up the team which had sagged and slumped since the late '50's. Mauch was relatively young and inexperienced when he took on the team but is a great competitor, quick tempered, hard driven, and by the time this book gets through with last season's scoreboard, almost game by game, he had brought the team up to 4th place standing in the league... Little pop fly for the local infield- no more.
