KILLER'S WEDGE

Detective Carella's job of finding the truth about old Scott's suicide is paralleled by Virginia Dodge's cold blooded determination to kill him for being the cause of her husband's death in jail. Her .38 is fortified by a vial of nitroglycerine (or is it just water) and the 87th Squad is immobilized while she waits for Carella's return. What you might call dandy old fashioned melodrama, contrived, calculated -- and chilling.
