We are putting this under MUST BOOKS for two reasons:- first, because we think the new foreword and the three new chapters of an important book, even though originally published back in 1933, are in themselves important enough to warrant this position. Second, because we have a sentimental feeling about this book, since it was one of the ""dark horses"" we picked in the first bulletin ever issued under our ""imprint"", January 1933. Our report read as follows:- ""A challenging book on the up-to-the-minute situation in Germany, taking the reader through the events of November 1932. Documentary evidence to show that Germany seems headed for a 'Third Empire' and militarism. The author has done a brilliant piece of journalism, as well as a sympathetic and searching analysis of the situation. One senses his background as largely that of the Prussian scene. The book is a denunciation of Hitler, other than as a great showman. Sounds an almost fanatical note of warning."" So much for our report on this first of the real prophets. How completely everything he feared has been borne out by the facts. This book was -- and remains -- a landmark. In the new material (one quarter of the book) he follows the German hymn of victory, the cold-blooded decision to make war for its own sake. ""Back clear to Attila!
