A vista of romance, politics, finance, family, Cook's Tour, melodrama for the story of Kentucky Shirley who gambles on a trip to Ireland with her three boys to claim her husband's inheritance, and who finds an old and a new love pursuing her, Peter and Gerald. The Land Law of the Irish Free States, the discouragement her Irish lawyer offers, one 's continued illnesses, make Shirley susceptible to Gerald's brand of wooing. Peter then arrives on the scene and there is a showdown at Darragh which destroys ence necessary for the inheritance, after which Shirley returns to America and to Peter's arms. Pre-present war getting for Pe Valera problems in Ireland and a story of a mother's not too intelligent fight for her son's rights.
