From Frederick County Tom comes to town to work for James Purdie, a patriot who has broken with his partners to start his own Gasell. Lord Dunmore, the foppish governor, adds fuel to the fires of colonial resentments, and, to parallel the national events- news of which Tom is always printing- there are the local feelings climaxing when Lord Dunmore tries to take a powder supply and when Tom himself prints the Declaration of Independence. Exciting, well grounded historical fiction.
