Johnny can read. Johnny Lion, that is. It's an easy to read book within an easy to read book as J. Lion reads up on oscar P. Lion. There's some adventure as Oscar-- Who is only a baby, not like Johnny-- goes out in the jungle by himself, tries without Success to do some hunting, and gets chased by an alligator. And for Johnny there is the smug knowledge of knowing that he, unlike Oscar P., had not disobeyed his parents. It's smoothly written without the spondee rhythm most easy readers seem to fall into.
